1. Notre Dame Cathedral
The Notre Dame Cathedral costs nothing to go to all year round even though it costs 7.50 should you wish to climb the tower. The Cathedral took 200 years to complete building and was finally finished in 1345. It has some beautiful gothic architecture including many gargoyles to inspire the artist in you. There are free tours available in several languages including English and German. It is on the Ile de la Cite right in the center of the Seine River, but you can get to the island by bridge from each side of the river.

2. Paris Flea Markets
Even if you are not planning to buy anything, it is worth a visit to the Paris Flea Markets only for the spectacle. Here you will find hundreds of stalls selling everything from antiques to art, vintage clothing and bric-a-brac. There will always be some interesting bargains to be had and you will also find some cheap food outlets along the way should you fancy a sandwich or perhaps a croissant.

3. Paris Ice Rinks
In the winter months there are numerous of temporary ice rinks that appear throughout Paris including one in front of the Hotel de Ville along with a superb rink on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower. Many of these ice-rinks are free, although you may need to pay a few euros if you need to hire ice-skates. In the winter months the ice rinks are busy, so even if you're not planning to skate it's a wonderful spectator sport.

What you want to do, and want to avoid when you are travelling usually depends on your tastes. Plus, when you're seeing la vie en rose it's hard to think of anything in Paris that could be an absolute bust. But sometimes your time and money can just be better spent elsewhere.
